Life coach Anne Brinkman helps people get unstuck and move toward the things that matter to them. Yet when it came to launching her own podcast, she found herself in a similar position: she’d known she wanted to do it for a year, but still hadn’t done it.
Four weeks after we started working together, her podcast was live.
Today, it’s an established asset for her business and a tool that’s helping her build relationships, expand her visibility, and connect with people she never would have otherwise.
Anne had been intending to launch a podcast for more than a year. She’d purchased a podcast course, drafted three episodes, experimented with recording, and spent plenty of time thinking about her “why” (to share self-development books she loved with people who were stuck).
But despite all that preparation, she still hadn’t launched. As a life coach, the irony wasn’t lost on her that she had become exactly the same kind of stuck as her clients.
“They’ve had some ideas of things they want but haven’t pursued. Like if I would parallel myself with this podcast — ‘I should do a podcast. Oh, my God, I still haven’t done it.’ “
The problem was deciding she was ready. Without accountability and a clear launch strategy, she was keeping herself perpetually almost ready.
And as she transitioned away from full-time employment and focused more heavily on growing her coaching business, launching the podcast to support it started to feel increasingly important.
“I love being able to see clearly the whole structure and what happens when! It makes it seem doable and in control.”
“Beautiful. That’s really valuable, honestly.”
“You certainly have created a lot of elements for me, so much appreciated. I was overwhelmed to review all of it. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is a lot.’ And then I was like, ‘Well actually, Lisa created all this — even more of a lot to do all that.’ “
For Anne, launching in just four weeks ended a year-long cycle of preparation and self-doubt.
While the launch itself was a significant milestone, some of the most meaningful results showed up later. Fifteen months after launching, I asked Anne how podcasting had changed her professional life. She told me:
“Having a podcast has allowed me an avenue to introduce myself to people to build connections. I have connected with so many inspirational and driven people that I would not have otherwise met. It’s also pushed me out of my comfort zone — or even made it more comfortable to approach strangers. I also sense admiration and surprise from others that I meet, which helps build my reputation in areas that are important in my business as a life coach.”
A lot of professionals start a podcast hoping to “get clients,” but as Anne discovered, there are so many other benefits. Having a platform that you own allows you to approach people you normally wouldn’t and say, “Hey, I have a podcast. Would you like to be on it?”
For Anne, someone who described herself as an introvert who preferred being behind the scenes, her podcast became a vehicle for connection and reputation building.
Knowing what to do and actually doing it are often two different things.
Anne’s a life coach. She helps people get unstuck. She knew what launching a podcast required, but to finally launch, she needed someone to make the process seem doable and keep her on track.
Each working session was a check-in, a feedback loop, and a push forward. The gap between being stuck in preparation mode and a launched podcast kept narrowing.
As we neared the end of the process, she was clear what had finally made the difference:
“I think that while I was set to do a podcast, it might not have happened without you keeping me on it.”
For many professionals, that accountability is the real value of podcast launch support.
Anne spent a year preparing to launch a podcast. It took four weeks to actually do it.
Here’s how she summed up her experience, in her own words, for her LinkedIn network:
If you have the equipment, the drafts, and the intention, but have spent months or even years telling yourself you’re still not ready, maybe you also need accountability, moral support, and a plan to finally get your podcast launched.
